Volunteer Overview
Hyalite Rural Fire District holds two Recruit Academies every year, Spring and Fall. Spring Academies generally start in early March, and Fall Academies typically start in early September, but dates are subject to change.
Completion of the academy is required to be a volunteer with Hyalite Fire. The Academy takes our new members through a four-month training program that earns their Firefighter I certification and covers skills like vehicle extrication, fire behavior, wildland fire, and many more.
The time commitment for volunteering at Hyalite Fire is approximately 15-20 hours per week both during and after the academy.
This allows time for the extensive training during academy, as well as shifts and ongoing training once the academy is finished.
