Become a Volunteer

Hyalite Rural Fire District holds two recruit academies every year, Spring and Fall. Spring academies generally start in early March, and Fall Academies typically start in early September, but dates are subject to change. Completion of an academy is required to be a volunteer with Hyalite Fire. The Academy takes our new members through a four-month training system in which they will earn their Firefighter I certification. They will also be trained in basic vehicle extrication, fire behavior, building construction, and risk assessment/management.

Once recruit academy is completed, the new members attend weekly training on Wednesday nights in order to continue developing new skills as well as maintaining proficiency basic fire suppression tactics.
